On 10/15/10, Deputies responded to the 17200 Block of Ave 16 in Earlimart in regards to an assault victim. Upon arrival Deputies located the victim who was suffering from trauma to his upper torso. The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition. Violent Crime Detectives responded to the area and conducted the investigation.

Visalia Court House Evacuation

UPDATE: The Visalia courthouse has been re-opened.  Special thanks to the Farmersville Police Department for their assistance with their K-9 unit.  Detectives are investigating the initial call to the courthouse regarding the bomb threat.  Anyone with information is encouraged to call 800-808-0488.

Home Invasion Robbery

On 10-13-10 at 0637 hrs, the Tulare County Sheriff's Offices was called to a home at the 33100 block of Road 158 in Ivanhoe regarding a home invasion robbery that had just occured.  Upon investigation it was learned that two hispanic male adults armed with unknown type handguns entered the occupied residence demanding money.  Items taken include money, phone, firearm and approximately 30 marijuana plants.  The two subjects fled the scene in a truck and no victim injuries were reported.

On 10/11/10, deputies responded to the Ivanhoe area regarding an assault. On arrival, the victim advised deputies that he had been stabbed by unknown subjects. Detectives responded and conducted the investigation. The suspect and the weapon are outstanding.  

***Update***

On 10/12/10, Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit and North End Investigation were able to identify, Danny Lane of Woodlake, as the suspect responsible in the stabbing of an Ivanhoe Man.

With the assistance of the Kings County Sheriff’s Office, Lane was found at a home in Armona. The suspect was taking into custody without incident and transported to Tulare County where he was booked at the Main Jail for Attempted Murder. . .

Suspicious Death

UPDATE: The subject was identified as Danel Allen Schott, age 45 of Pixley.  Cause of death is pending lab results.

 

PRIOR RELEASE: On 10-10-10 at approximately 0945 hours, the Tulare County Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on Palm road. Upon arrival the fire was suppressed and a subject was found deceased. The Violent Crimes Unit was contacted and responded to conduct a parallel investigation with Tulare County Fire Arson Investigation Unit. The Victim’s identity has not been released at this time pending identification and notification of next of kin. The Tulare County Coroner’s Office will conduct an Autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Driving under the influence of alcohol, and multiple warrant arrests

During the week of October 3rd through October 9th 2010, personnel from the North End Gang Violence Suppression Unit conducted suppression patrol in the North County areas of Cutler, Orosi, Goshen, Ivanhoe, Woodlake, Sultana and Seville. They also conducted surveillance and assisted the Farmersville and Woodlake Police Departments with the service of multiple search warrants tied to recent gang related homicides.

Detectives made numerous traffic stops, contacted several subjects, including those suspected of participating in gang activity and completed 29 Field Identifications. Several subjects were also counseled, arrested and/or cited in the field to appear in court.

Ignacio Cortez (34 years) was arrested on an outstanding warrant for driving while intoxicated and was booked into the Main Jail with bail set at $25,000. Eligio Mercado (18 years) was arrested for driving while intoxicated and booked into the Main Jail with bail set at $10,000. Jessica Costa (36 years) was arrested on a felony and misdemeanor warrant for sales of a controlled substance and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Costa was booked into the Bob Wiley Detention Facility with bail set at $15,000.

"We are very excided to be able to bring in our volunteers, especially during these tough economic times."

 

The Swear in ceremony will take place in the Headquarters lobby at 8:30 am.  Friends family and staff will be present.  Media is welcome to attend.

Detectives from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department South End Investigation Unit responded to Spring Road in Earlimart regarding a Burglary. The investigation revealed Salvador Mendoza burglarized 3 residences and 2 vehicles in the Earlimart area for a loss exceeding $10,000. Salvador was located and arrested without incident.

Poss. Methamphetamine / Poss. Of Drug Paraphernalia

On the above date and time, deputies responded to the above location to contact Randy Shaffer (52 years old) regarding (2) confirmed active warrants for his arrest.  Deputies contacted Shaffer in his bedroom of the residence and placed him under arrest without incident.  A methamphetamine pipe containing suspected methamphetamine was located near Shaffer.  Shaffer was arrested and booked at the Tulare County Main Jail on the warrants and the above charges.
   
    This case is currently under investigation by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.

  During the week of September 28th through October 2nd 2010, personnel from the North End Gang Violence Suppression Unit conducted suppression patrol in the North County areas of Cutler, Orosi, Goshen, Ivanhoe, Woodlake, Traver and New London. Gabriel Rangel (35 years) was arrested and booked for being under the influence of a controlled substance and for an outstanding felony arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotic paraphernalia and under the influence of a controlled substance. His bail was set $12,500.

Jose Mondragon (20 years) was cited and released for possession of less than an ounce of processed marijuana and for being an unlicensed driver. A male juvenile (16 years) was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Justice Center for being in possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and for resisting/delaying a peace officer.

Carlos Velasquez (39 years) was arrested and booked on four outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrants for public intoxication with bail totaling $17,500. Carlos Mendoza (22 years) was arrested and booked on a no bail arrest warrant for driving on a suspended license.

Desiree Garza (22 years) was cited and released on two misdemeanor arrest warrants for theft and under the influence of a controlled substance.

 ***NEWS RELEASE UPDATE - ADDITIONAL ARREST MADE***

An arrest warrant for a 17 year old juvenile had been issued for attempted murder in this case. Detectives learned that suspect initially fled to Mexico, but was currently hiding out at the apartment in Bakersfield.

On Friday, 10/1/2010 at 1605 hours Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit, Gang Crimes Unit and Narcotics Unit served a search warrant and the arrest warrant with the assistance of the Kern County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team at an apartment in the 1200 bock of E. Flower in Bakersfield. The suspect initially refused to come out of the apartment but after a short stand off, the suspect came out without further incident and was taken into custody. During a search of the apartment, gang indicia was located along with evidence related to the incident.

During this investigation, evidence also linked the suspect to two armed robberies that occurred in the Pixley and Terra Bella areas. The first armed robbery occurred on May 24th, 2010. In that case an employee at a recycling center, Sergio Coria, 42, out of Porterville, had been robbed at gunpoint, had been duct taped and kidnaped. He was left in a field several miles east of Pixley. The victims vehicle was stolen along with an undermined amount of cash and a cell phone. The victim was not injured in that case.

Evidence also linked the 17 year old suspect to an armed robbery that occurred at the Blanca Market on 6/24/10 in the 19100 block of Ave 96 in Terra Bella. In that case several suspects entered the market with handguns and duct taped employees. None of the victims were injured during this incident. The suspects stole an undetermined amount of cash along with several other items from the store.

The juvenile suspect was booked into the Tulare County Juvenile Detention Facility on the attempted murder warrant and on the above listed charges. There warrant issued was a "No Bail" warrant.

PREVIOUS ATTEMPTED MURDER NEWS RELEASE INFORMATION:

As previously reported, on 7/01/2010 at 1850 hours, deputies from the Pixely substation responded to a call of shots fired at Church and Sutter, and 1 block west at State and Sutter. Deputies arrived and found three gun shot wound victims, listed above, on scene. Victim #1 was air lifted to an area hospital for the above listed injuries. He underwent surgery at the time. Victims 2 and 3 were transported by ambulance to another area hospital for non life threatening injuries. Both were treated and released

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit responded to investigate. During the investigation it was discovered that victims 1 and 3 were walking in the area of Church and Sutter when the suspects arrived in a vehicle and fired at the victims. As the suspects were leaving they fired at Victim #2 at State and Sutter.

On 07/13/2010, detectives from the Violent Crimes Investigations Unit and the South County Gang Unit served two search warrants in the 1800 block of West Sierra in Earlimart. There, suspect Robert Rivera, 20 years old, was arrested at his residence. The vehicle used in the crime was located and taken as evidence, along with gang indicia.

Coroner Case - Suicide

On 9-29-10 at approximately 0825 hrs, the Tulare County Sheriff's Dispatch received numerous calls regarding a subject on an overpass. Tulare County Sheriff's Deputy responded to the overpass at Ave 280 and Hwy 99 in Visalia.  The deputy located and adult male sitting on the railing. Upon  arrival the subject jumped from the railing.  Emergency medical transported the subject to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
