Media Information Re: Services for Dep. Jeremy Meyst
LOCATION:           DATE:           TIME:
CASE NUMBER:           VICTIM:           CITY:

A message from the Sheriff's Public Information Office:

Thank you all for your patience as we mourn with the loss of our Deputy, Jeremy Meyst.

This is a difficult time not only for our department, but for his friends and family as well.

We understand some media may wish to attend the viewing for Jeremy Meyst.

The family asked that you please respect their time of mourning.  They do not want to be interviewed nor do they want themselves or the children on camera.  They do understand they may end up on camera in passing as that may be inevitable, they simply ask it be done in a respectful manner without being seen if possible.

In regards to the funeral services, graveside and reception.

We are working out the specifics and will provide detailed maps etc. when they are complete.

We will have designated areas for the media to park at the church.  Media will be allowed inside the church, in the media area on the second floor only, during the services.  There will not be a ceremony to bring Dep. Meyst into the church ahead of time.  The sound crew is working out the mult-box for you as well to plug into.  As soon as we receive the specs we will add it to the detailed information for you.

We will have an area designated for media outside the church, near the uniformed personnel formation when Dep. Meyst is escorted out.  You may want to plan ahead for a secondary camera.

The cemetery will also have a designated area for the media.  The parking area we are providing at the church will allow you to get out of the parking lot and take a different rout to the cemetery as the precession will take quite a while and may hinder your arrival and set up at the cemetary.

Again, the family asked that you please respect this time in their lives.

If you plan to attend any portion of the services, please email  SheriffPIO@co.tulare.ca.us with your contact information and email so we may provide you with the full set of details.

Thank you again for your patience.

On Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at approximately 0239 hours, three different civilians called dispatch to report a traffic accident involving a Sheriff’s Inmate transportation van.  The van was found on Road 204 south of Highway 198 near the Friant Kern Canal Bridge.  No other vehicles were present.

Officers from the Woodlake and Exeter Police Departments arrived on scene and began to perform CPR on the driver who had been ejected from the vehicle.  A Sheriff’s Sergeant also arrived on scene.

Two inmates were still in the vehicle and received minor injuries that were treated.  All parties were transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle was Tulare County Sheriff’s Correctional Deputy Jeremy Meyst.  The deputy was transporting two individuals who had been arrested and booked from the Porterville Substation to the Main Jail.  One inmate was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and the other was arrested on a DUI warrant.

Deputy Jeremy Meyst received extensive trauma during the vehicle accident and succumb to his injuries.  Deputy Meyst, age 31 of Visalia is survived by his wife and children.

Deputy Jeremy Meyst was raised in the Visalia area.  He was a 2001 graduate from Mount Whitney High School.  Deputy Meyst was hired by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department in October of 2004 as a Detention Services Officer.  In April of 2006, he was promoted to Correctional Deputy.  His last assignment was at the Sheriff’s Main Jail Facility.

Sheriff Mike Boudreaux stated, “I am heartbroken that we have lost a member of our Sheriff’s Department family.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and all of our employees during this difficult time.”
